Video analysis: When does Brock Lesnar return to pro wrestling?

Brock Lesnar surprised many by walking away from mixed martial arts following his loss to Alistair Overeem last night at UFC 141.

Vince McMahon asked Lesnar to return to pro wrestling earlier this year to make an appearance at Wrestlemania 27. UFC president Dana White wouldn't allow his pay-per-view meal ticket to do so. Now that Lesnar is done with MMA, how soon can he return to the WWE?

Wrestling/MMA guru Dave Meltzer joined myself and Kevin Iole to talk about the retirement, impact on the sport and chances we see him soon in the wrestling ring.

Brock Lesnar WWE Bound Following UFC Retirement?

No more than a second after former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar (Pictured) announced his retirement from mixed martial arts did fanboys wonder if the former WWE superstar was destined to return to his fake fighting ways. The 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Season Celebration

This year's AMA Motocross Banquet & Season Celebration was held in a magnificent banquet room at the Pala Resort & Casino. The room was decorated beautifully, lined with motocross dcor, as well as a stage decorated with the championship bikes and awards. The line-up of food, appetizers, desserts, and beverages was very elegant and delicious.

After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Jason Weigandt, along with Tim Cotter hosted the show. And of course Jason started it just like he does many of his shows - after slamming down an energy drink.

Jason went on to talk about each round of this summer's AMA Motocross Nationals, with a list of funny jokes pertaining to all the good and bad situations at each of the races. After that, the awards and trophies were handed out.

The night was filled with special memories, good times, and laughs. One poignant moment was when Kevin Windham accepted the award for 'Sportsperson of the Year'. Kevin always has a great way of expressing himself, but made a great comment towards his friend & the team manager, Mike LaRocco. He commented on Mike's motivation, that pushed Kevin to work hard and do his best ... it was touching, but at the same time very funny.

UFC 141 Live Blog: Nam Phan vs. Jim Hettes Updates

Filed under:

Nam Phan faces Jimy Hettes at UFC 141.LAS VEGAS -- This is the UFC 141 live blog for Nam Phan vs. Jim Hettes, a featherweight bout on tonight's UFC pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Phan (17-9) defeated Leonard Garcia by unanimous decision at UFC 136 in October. Hettes (9-0) won his UFC debut in August, submitting Alex Caceres with a rear-naked choke.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Herb Dean is our referee, and after he gives the signal the fighters touch gloves and we're underway. Hettes wastes no time getting the fight to the mat with a nice takedown, but Phan scrambles up in a hurry. Hettes stays on him and puts him back down, then locks up a guillotine as Phan tries to get up again. Phan is forced to go to the ground and give Hettes the top position. Hettes releases the choke and opens up with punches. He's dribbling Phan's head off the mat like a basketball with these shots, and Phan is doing very little about it. Phan rolls to his stomach and Hettes keeps it up, but he's slowing now. Phan somehow manages to survive the assault, though he couldn't have complained if Dean had stopped it there. Hettes eats a couple punches after Phan gets to his feet, but he puts him back down without much trouble. Hettes gets mount and looks for an armbar. Phan is holding on for dear life as Hettes yanks on his arm, but eventually gives it up and finishes the round back in mount, battering Phan some more. MMA Fighting scores it 10-8 for Hettes.

Round 2: Phan looks surprisingly recovered to start the round, though he's not without some signs of the beating. Hettes starts off with a head kick and then quickly gets the fight back to the mat. Phan rolls for a leg, perhaps looking for a heel hook or ankle lock or maybe just hoping to make Hettes think about something other than punching him in the face for a couple seconds. Hettes tries a choke but ends up giving Phan the top position for the first time in the fight. Hettes defends well from the bottom and eventually gets back to his feet and into a clinch with Phan. Phan gets away for a moment, but Hettes keeps coming and drags him back down. Phan gets up and creates space again, and this time manages a nice right hand and a knee before Hettes gets in close. Hettes tosses Phan to the mat yet again, and Phan is starting to look like he's giving up hope. Phan gets back to his feet in the final seconds, and an exhausted-looking Hettes is content to let the round tick away. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Hettes.

Round 3: Hettes is definitely looking weary to start the final round, and Phan seems eager to take advantage. He fires off some nice punch combos, but Hettes comes back with a head kick and some hooks of his own. Hettes gets back in close for another takedown, but Phan keeps gamely rising to his feet. Phan is good and bloody now, and it seems to be bothering his right eye. Hettes looks positively spent, but he still manages another takedown. Hettes looks for an arm-triangle choke, but gives it up in exchange for full mount, which he can't keep. He still keeps the pressure on from the top, battering Phan with solid elbows. Phan has taken a serious beating here tonight, but he'll make it to the final horn. It's clearly a dominant victory for Hettes, and UFC matchmaker Joe Silva can't get in the Octagon fast enough to congratulate him. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Hettes.

Jimy Hettes def. Nam Phan via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26)

DC Moto TF Ride Day with Josh Hill

In the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship series, Josh Hill consistently found himself on the podium. He ended the season sixth overall in points, in which he finished second in 5 of the 17 Main Events. In July, Josh spent time preparing for the 'Speed and Style' event for X Games 16. His practice session went from 'landing a backflip on his first attempt' to 'under rotating the next time around.' This horrific crash sent Josh to the hospital with a list of injuries and a whole new respect for the sport of Freestyle Motocross. I caught up with Josh, at Pala Raceway for the DC Moto TF Ride day, where he talked about his rehabilitation, his plans for Supercross 2011, and more!

Josh: Yeah I am getting better, everything is starting to heal up and I am getting to where I can function normally again. So it is getting better, but I need to focus on getting my body stronger. That is my main thing right now.

Watch Dana White prove Duane Ludwig?s fastest knockout

In UFC president Dana White's latest video blog, he answered to the Nevada Athletic Commission's refusal to change Duane "Bang" Ludwig's knockout time. The UFC changed the time of Ludwig's 2006 knockout of Jonathan Goulet, giving Ludwig the fastest knockout in UFC history.

The NAC, on the other hand, said that the 11-second time still stands. To prove just how wrong they are, White worked with the UFC's production team to show the time of the three fastest knockouts in UFC history.

White doing this adds validity to his decision to update the record. It wasn't a capricious decision by White, but something fair, calculated and transparent. Nicely done.

2nd Annual DC Moto TF Ride Day and Invitational Poker Tournament

Supercross 2011 is right around the corner! So much is going on, both publicly, but also behind the scenes. One public and noteworthy item - DC Shoes has a new three year contract with Monster Energy Supercross!

The list of Athletes sponsored by the DC Shoes brand is a very impressive group making this Supercross assignment unique fun for me!

K.J. Noons starts Strikeforce card with exciting decision

K.J. Noons starts Strikeforce card with exciting decision

Hometown boy K.J. Noons took an exciting decision over Billy Evangelista at the Strikeforce show in San Diego on Saturday night. The judges saw it 29-28 on all three cards for Noons.

Early in the first round, the pair traded takedowns, but Evangelista landed some short strikes that rocked Noons with around two minutes left. Noons answered with a jab that gave him room, and combinations that showed off his striking prowess. Evangelista finished the round strong with a headlock and a knee.

Noons started the action-packed second round with a spinning backfist and kick. The rest of the round featured Evangelista happily moving forward and surviving Noons strikes. He even asked for Noons to hit him, and Noons obliged. Evangelista tried for a takedown, but couldn't do much with it.

After beating up Evangelista for most of the rounds, Noons came close to losing the fight when Evangelista caught him in a D'Arce choke. Though it was tight, Noons maneuvered out. The two finished the round exchanging strikes, smiling and enjoying the end of their bout. Noons got the better of every exchange.

Both fighters were coming off losses to Jorge Masvidal, the headliner for Saturday's card. Noons is now 11-4, while Evangelista is 7-2.

Dana White nixes Donald Cerrone's professional bull riding aspirations while in the UFC

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

WhiteDana_TB150_8.jpg
In a couple of different interviews this week, UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone has revealed his aspirations in professional bull riding, as well as wakeboarding, in 2012. Both are activities he partakes in outside of the cage, and would like to be a dual pro athlete, but the question becomes: would the UFC ever allow that while he's under contract?

The answer is an unequivocal "hell no" from UFC President Dana White in an interview with MMAJunkie.com.

UFC fighters have a somewhat open clause in their standard contracts prohibiting fighters from taking part in "dangerous activities" that could lead to injuries, and though it doesn't have a clear list of activities prohibited, White is more than willing to clarify if fighters ask him.

"I can tell them, 'No, you can't go snowboarding, no you can't do this, and no you can't do that,'" White said. "But you know what's pretty cool about our guys? Most of the guys do call and say, 'Is it cool if I do this? Is it cool if I do that?' It's actually pretty easy dealing with most of these guys."

Cerrone may not go so quietly on this front, and has admitted to bull riding prior to fights this year. However, now that White has stamped a "no" on that activity, he probably wouldn't be very happy if Cerrone continued anyway.

"I'd be pretty pissed," White said. "If Cerrone went out and was bull riding ? maybe he does. Maybe he bull rides every weekend at his house. I don't know. But I certainly hope not. The thing is the guy has a really good career here. He's done some great things. He's worked his way up. If he beats Nate Diaz, it would just be so stupid and counterproductive to be bull riding.

"Bull ride when you're done with this and you've achieved everything you want to achieve here. Guys are going to get out and ride some four-wheelers here and there and do some things. But bull riding? That's a whole 'nother level."

Penick's Analysis: White's reaction isn't at all surprising, and the UFC wanting to discourage "dangerous activities" isn't something unique to them either. Other professional athletes have similar clauses in their contracts, because the owners, organizations, and leagues that employ the athletes don't want them being taken out because of something outside of the sport. And, as White says, there is a major difference between some recreational four-wheeling or something along those lines and bull riding. I can understand Cerrone's desire to do something he enjoys, but when he's rising up the ladder quickly in the UFC, it could be detrimental to that career to continue bull riding at the same time.

Sharps vs. Squares: A closer look at UFC 141 at betting odds reveals where the real money is going

Sharps vs. Squares: A closer look at UFC 141 at betting odds reveals where the real money is goingBetting on mixed martial arts is getting more sophisticated with each card. Gone are the days where sports books could fall victim to savvy bettors who had better knowledge of the undercards than the supposed experts did. The bookmakers have gotten wiser, but they're also battling the best minds from all over the sports betting world.

The players who traditionally pounded the major sports like NFL, college football and NBA, are taking their time to find middles, value scenarios and less than sturdy numbers in the world of MMA betting.

A closer look at the line movements for UFC 141 reveals some interesting cases for this Friday's fight card (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. ET).

The important number to look at is the percentage of bets taken and where the original odds have moved. The numbers listed are the opener, current and then percentage of bets place on each side with Bovada (former Bodogsports):

UFC 141 betting odds:

Diego Nunes (-325 to -380) 43.44%
Manny Gamburyan (+250 to +290) 56.56%

Jacob Volkmann (-265 to -200) 87.45%
Efrain Escudero (+205 to +160) 12.55%

Danny Castillo (-200 to -200) 48.18%
Anthony Njokuani (+160 to +160) 51.82%

Ross Pearson (-260 to -225) 93.64%
Junior Assuncao (+200 to +175) 6.36%

Nam Phan (-230 to -225) 82.84%
Jim Hettes (+180 to +175) 17.16%

Jon Fitch (-230 to -200) 94.42%
Johny Hendricks (+180 to +160) 5.58%

Donald Cerrone (-280 to -325) 59.31%
Nate Diaz (+220 to +250) 40.69%

Alistair Overeem (-145 to -115) 65.24%
Brock Lesnar (+115 to -115) 34.76

The translation here is that anytime the higher percentage of bets are placed on one side, the line should be moving in that direction, but that's not the case in several fights.

In the Fitch-Hendricks fight, the majority of the bets (94%) are on the favorite yet the number has dropped. That suggests that the bigger money amount is on the side of Hendricks. It's your classic public versus the big bettor scenario. The same goes for Overeem vs. Lesnar, Phan vs. Hettes, Pearson vs. Assuncao and Volkmann vs. Escudero.

Maybe the "sharps" know something in these fights. Maybe not. Either way, it's interesting to see where the big money is going.

RJ Says: Bercy Supercross

I have raced at the Bercy Supercross. In 1984, we actually raced it twice. The first race was right after the Daytona Supercross in March, and then we raced again at Bercy in December.

The very first year was cool. But the track was an unknown. When we (the top American Supercross racers) got there, we realized they (the organizers) didn't know fully how to put on a supercross. The track was so narrow, it was hard to pass, it was a 'European' supercross.

But also that first year, I realized how awesome a 'show' can be. Their show was awesome in Bercy! All of us were surprised at how great it was!

My very first thought though, the first time I got to Bercy: "Wow, this is a small track!" But I raced there again in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989. I've also gone another time after I retired from professional supercross and motocross racing.

Dan Hardy ready to return to action, wants to fight Matt Hughes in next UFC bout

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

After suffering four straight losses in the UFC, welterweight Dan Hardy has said he doesn't want to return until he feels ready to validate the UFC's decision to keep him on the roster. Well, he now says he's ready, and told ESPN UK who he'd like to face upon his return:

"I've mentioned Matt Hughes to Lorenzo [Fertitta]. He's been on a rough streak as well recently, he'll look at me and see I've lost four fights and think he can outwrestle me. I also genuinely don't like him. I need a fight to get up for and I'd take great pleasure in smashing him in the face. I won't talk about why I don't like him, it's some knowledge I have about him away from the sport. Even students around where he lives bet against him... Lorenzo would love to see it; more than anything he just likes a good fight! That's why I've not been cut yet because I come to fight. I think Matt Hughes would be an entertaining fight."

Justin Edwards vs. Mike Stumpf the latest addition to UFC 143 in February

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

The UFC is continuing to fill out the undercard for February's UFC 143 event in Las Vegas, as a welterweight bout between Justin Edwards and Mike Stumpf has been added to the card.

The organization announced the bout on Friday.

Edwards, a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter 13, has already fought three times in 2011, even though his debut came in June. However, he's dropped two of those three fights by decision, most recently losing to John Maguire at UFC 138 last month.

Stumpf made his UFC debut in September at UFC Fight Night 25, but dropped his first fight by submission to T.J. Waldburger.
