Eddie Alvarez vs. Shinya Aoki rematch coming to Bellator this April

The much talked about rematch between Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki will take place in Bellator Fighting Championships this April, according to a report from BloodyElbow.com.
Alvarez decided against entering Bellator's season six tournament to work towards a rematch against Michael Chandler, instead going after vengeance for a loss suffered in 2008 to Aoki. The venue for the fight hadn't been determined previously, but according to the BE report, it will indeed take place in Bellator, and Aoki has signed on for the fight already.
Aoki submitted Alvarez on New Year's Eve 2008 in Japan, locking on a heel hook in the first round to hand Alvarez what was, at the time, only his second career loss. He would win his next seven fights before his upset at the hands of Chandler in November.

ROUNDTABLE: Predictions for UFC on Fox 2 main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis

Rashad by being better at MMA. Phil Davis is a freak of an athlete and a prodigious prospect, but this is too early for him to take on someone with the evolved skills of "Sugar" Rashad. I expect Davis to be good enough to get a takedown or two, and his length advantage on the feet should allow him to work in some of his powerful leg kicks, but that's about all the offense I see for Mr. Wonderful. Its a five rounder, so that's two extra rounds for something dramatic and/or unexpected to happen, but I see five rounds of Evans winning exchanges on the feet, avoiding takedowns, and even working in a key takedown of his own at the end of rounds to seal them. Evans by decision and following the gameplan.

This fight could be a short one, or as most will predict, a ground specialist's dream.� The wrestling pedigree between Evans and Davis well known, but Evans has the power to make this fight a short one. I just don't think it'll happen that way. I see Evans grinding this fight out with Davis, and taking the fight via unanimous decision.

I think Rashad wins this one. I just don't think that Davis has the tools needed to beat Rashad. I hope the fight plays out like they both say it will, on the feet, but I think that Davis will shoot in for a takedown early. Rashad has the ability to knock out Davis, but I think this fight goes the distance. I think Rashad wins by decision, and goes on to fight Jon Jones later.

I find this question silly and excusable. Rashad Evans is from a great city full of great sports teams and the home of Michael Jordan himself ? Chicago, Illinois! Rashad will be fighting in front of a hometown crowd, which will give him all that much more of a boost in the cage. As long as he doesn't get reckless trying to finish the fight, this is his to win and his to lose. Phil Davis doesn't have the wrestling to keep up with Rashad, and he hasn't displayed explosive striking like we know Evans can bring to the table. Rashad has one career loss, I think many people forget this ? he has lost once, and he's a former champion. He's going to come into the cage, either knock out Davis or get the decision. I really don't see Rashad pulling off a submission but less likely things have certainly happened. Davis is a great fighter, but this is a fight I just can't begin to imagine him winning. There's a small Rashad Evans fan boy inside of me screaming "GET EM SUGA" but there's also an adult man on the outside telling that fan boy to shut his trap. Most likely Evans by TKO in round three.

Davis believes his wrestling to be far superior to that of Evans, while Evans himself has shown little appreciation for Davis' wrestling game and believes he's the better fighter. The big difference in this fight comes in the striking game, however. Evans is the far superior striker, with proven success on the feet in his career. He's been tagged several times by a number of other opponents, but Davis isn't the level of striker of any of them.
If Davis gets Evans on his back, he'll need to be looking for submissions in quick fashion. His hope to win this fight is to get Evans down and stop him there, and the longer the fight goes without that happening, the more he leaves himself open to being stopped himself. He's the least-hit fighter in the UFC, but that's been because he's able to keep his opponents on their backs. That's not going to be the case with Evans, and that could lead to a long night.
Ultimately, this fight simply may be a little too soon for Davis. He's coming in supremely confident in his own abilities, but with a lengthy injury layoff keeping him out for most of 2011, and the considerable leap in competition he's taking, he's not yet as good a fighter overall as Evans. Because of that, I see "Sugar" Rashad staking claim to his fight with Jones.

This video is part 1 of 2. I wanted to get it up for you as quickly as possible. In this video, for better or worse, you'll see a lot of me (I'm number 5 on a Yamaha). But in the second video that's coming, you'll see a lot more of my friends in the race like David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Jeff Ward, Goat Breker, Broc Glover, Ron Lechien, Johnny O'Mara, and others.
I think in 1985, we ran two 'main events' at each supercross. Part of what you see here (if my memory is correct) is me winning the first 'main event'.

CHICAGO - For a man who's famously (or perhaps, infamously) walked the walk after talking the talk, Chael Sonnen nearly was tripped up by Michael Bisping.In the co-headliner of Saturday's UFC on FOX 2 event, Sonnen edged the fellow middleweight contender to secure an April title fight and rematch with elusive foe Anderson Silva.

UFC on FX 1 picks, Vegas-style: Could Guillard?s size be the difference?
Explosiveness against technique. It's a solid way to describe the main event tonight at UFC on FX 1.
Melvin Guillard can overwhelm his opponents, while Jim Miller can slowly pick you apart with his overall game. But there may be one other factor that determines the outcomes of this one. Guillard may simply be too big for Miller, one of the smaller fighters in the lightweight division.
Guillard tweeted this morning that he'll actually be over the welterweight limit as he steps into the Octagon tonight (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) for this 155-pound tilt.
Kevin Iole and Frank Trigg joined myself on ESPN1100/98.9 FM in Las Vegas to make our picks using the Sin City betting odds. Iole likes Guillard and Trigg thinks the size disparity won't make a difference. He's worried about Guillard surviving if he doesn't finish the fight in the first few minutes.

Oliveira brilliant in finish of Wisely, Swanson scores big KO at UFC on Fox 2
CHICAGO -- Eric Wisely learned a new submission term - the calf slicer. Unfortunately, it was Wisely's calf, knee and thigh that were being shredded by Charles Oliveira.
In his featherweight debut, Oliveira showed off some nifty scrambling and submission skills in finishing the American at the 1:53 mark of the first round. The UFC's Tom Gerbasi said it was the first calf slicer finish in the history of the promotion.
Oliveira (15-2, 3-2 UFC, 1 NC) landed the Submission of the Night bonus good for� $65,000.
"It felt amazing to walk out and hear the energy of the crowd here in Chicago. I was extremely confident and proud going into this fight and I knew that God would be with me," Oliveira said. "I have practiced my submissions endlessly and it was easy to look for that opportunity to finish the fight. I am ready for the next challenge inside the Octagon."
Oliveira looked solid in all aspects, most importantly the bounce in his step. This was the 22-year-old's first fight down at 145 pounds. That first trip down to a new weight class can always be dicey from a stamina standpoint. The Brazilian's length at 5-foot-10 gave Wisely trouble from the start. He just couldn't get inside on Oliveira.
After eating a few good punches and a kick, Wisely (19-7) flopped to his back. From there, Oliveira patiently hovered above looking to land some good shots. He finally grabbed a leg and dropped back to work on a heel hook. It was tight, but Wisely escaped serious damage. He wasn't out of it, so Oliveira tried to reset the position.
Wisely scrambled to get to his hands and knees with his back facing Oliveira. That's when the Brazilian went into improvise-mode, jumped on Wisely's back and dropped back down. But he did so without releasing Wisely's left leg. He cranked backwards and the pressure on Wisely's leg was incredible. He tapped with his right hand a couple of times. The referee missed it. He groaned in agony as he tapped again with the left. The fight was over. Wisely (19-7, 0-1 UFC) lost his promotional debut.
"I've got to work on a few things to improve my overall game. With these Brazilian jiu-jitsu guys, I've got to be a little quicker all around. That might have been enough to have kept me from getting caught and we might be looking at an entirely different outcome," said Wisely.
Swanson posts a beautiful knockout of Roop
Cub Swanson's hands haven't always been kind to him. Tonight, they paid dividends big time.
Swanson scored a huge second-round knockout with a perfectly placed right hand on George Roop's chin. The impact of Swanson's overhand right sent Roop's mouthpiece flying into the cage and he went down in a heap. A surprised Swanson jumped on top to throw 10 more unanswered punches and the fight was stopped at 2:23 of the second.
"That shot just connected and rocked him and put him on his back. I wanted to make sure that I had finished it because it all happened so fast. I'm going to take about two weeks off and see how I feel. I might be looking to get back in here pretty quickly after a win like this," said Swanson.
During the immediate aftermath of the victory, Swanson (16-5, 1-1 UFC) appeared to a get a little emotional. It's been a rough run the last few years for Swanson, who's battled hand issue after hand issue. Because of the injuries, he's only fought two times since Aug. of 2010.
"We had some pretty good action when the match started and I was using my range to gain the advantage. I'm really not sure what happened because it really just happened to fast. He hit me with something that I didn't see coming at all," said Roop (12-9-1, 2-5 UFC).

Rashad Evans earns title shot with UFC on Fox 2 decision
CHICAGO -- In a bout to decide the next light heavyweight title contender, Rashad Evans controlled Phil Davis on his way to a unanimous decision at the United Center on Saturday night. The judges saw it 50-45 on all three cards for Evans.
Davis landed a spinning leg kick, then ducked low into a takedown. Evans pushed him into the fence and fended off the takedown attempt. Every time Davis came in to try to get the takedown, Evans made him pay with a punch or two. Evans got a takedown at the 1:30 point of the first round, then moved to side control. From there, he put Davis into a crucifix hold and landed a bevy of short punches.
In the second round, Evans was aggressive, landing several punches early in the round. They clinched, but things slowed down considerably. They had a few striking exchanges, with Evans coming out on top. In the last 30 seconds, Evans took Davis down and again landed punches from side control.

Davis shot in for a takedown to start the third round. Davis drove him against the fence until he finally got the takedown. Evans reversed position and landed several lefts to Davis' face. They returned to their feet, and Davis got another takedown, and Evans returned to his feet while Davis held on for dear life.
Early in the fourth round, Davis landed a punishing rib kick, but Evans did not slow down. He continued to move forward, stalking Davis around the cage. When Davis shot in for a takedown, Evans fended him off before getting a takedown of his own.
Evans started the fifth round with a huge strike, and then held off Davis' attack. Evans caught a kick, then as he held the single leg, punched Davis until he went down. He stretched Davis into side control, and continued to land punches even as Davis worked to his feet. Evans controlled the rest of the round the way he controlled the whole fight.
With this win, Evans should punch his ticket for a fight with Jon Jones. The UFC announced Saturday that Jones' next bout will be in April in Atlanta. As long as Evans is healthy, the bout should be his.

Rashad Evans earns title shot with UFC on Fox 2 decision
CHICAGO -- In a bout to decide the next light heavyweight title contender, Rashad Evans controlled Phil Davis on his way to a unanimous decision at the United Center on Saturday night. The judges saw it 50-45 on all three cards for Evans.
Davis landed a spinning leg kick, then ducked low into a takedown. Evans pushed him into the fence and fended off the takedown attempt. Every time Davis came in to try to get the takedown, Evans made him pay with a punch or two. Evans got a takedown at the 1:30 point of the first round, then moved to side control. From there, he put Davis into a crucifix hold and landed a bevy of short punches.
In the second round, Evans was aggressive, landing several punches early in the round. They clinched, but things slowed down considerably. They had a few striking exchanges, with Evans coming out on top. In the last 30 seconds, Evans took Davis down and again landed punches from side control.
Davis shot in for a takedown to start the third round. Davis drove him against the fence until he finally got the takedown. Evans reversed position and landed several lefts to Davis' face. They returned to their feet, and Davis got another takedown, and Evans returned to his feet while Davis held on for dear life.
Early in the fourth round, Davis landed a punishing rib kick, but Evans did not slow down. He continued to move forward, stalking Davis around the cage. When Davis shot in for a takedown, Evans fended him off before getting a takedown of his own.
Evans started the fifth round with a huge strike, and then held off Davis' attack. Evans caught a kick, then as he held the single leg, punched Davis until he went down. He stretched Davis into side control, and continued to land punches even as Davis worked to his feet. Evans controlled the rest of the round the way he controlled the whole fight.
With this win, Evans should punch his ticket for a fight with Jon Jones. The UFC announced Saturday that Jones' next bout will be in April in Atlanta. As long as Evans is healthy, the bout should be his.

WMX Rider Insight: Vicki Golden's 2010 Season Review
When Vicki Golden turned pro in 2009, she went into the season open minded; she just wanted to see how she'd do in the Pros. It worked out pretty well for Vicki as she consistently finished in the top 4 in the first 5 rounds of the 2009 WMX season. After a season ending injury to Trey Canard, Geico Honda gave Vicki an opportunity to ride Trey's bike the remainder of the season of the Women's Motocross Series. It was a great experience as she finished 4th in Colorado, but her season ended prematurely as she injured herself in a practice session at Perris Raceway before the 6th round in Washougal.
In 2010 Vicki came back healthy and was picked up by Moto Concepts Yamaha. She wasn?t as consistent as she expected, but she did finish the season 4th overall points, with a 3rd place finish at the Pala Raceway National. In 2011 she will be running the #4 plate in the AMA Women's Motocross Series.

Vicki got back from Geneva, Switzerland a few weeks ago where she participated in a women?s supercross exhibition race with some pretty stiff competition.

The UFC has a big event coming up this Saturday as UFC on Fox 2 takes place from Chicago. It's a triple-header as Phil Davis fights Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping fights Chael Sonnen, and Demian Maia fights Chris Weidman. Let's hope that the UFC doesn't hesitate to show some prelim fights if the main card fights end early. The ratings for UFC on Fox 1 clearly showed that people want to see action, not a bunch of talking heads. It's fine to have some pre-fight and post-fight discussion, but not to the point that it makes people want to tune out.
The most interesting fight on the card to me is Bisping vs. Sonnen. I'm definitely interested in seeing Evans vs. Davis, but Bisping vs. Sonnen edges it out in my eyes. In the battle of two of the most unlikeable guys in MMA, who takes the win here?
To me, it's really simple and easy to predict. Michael Bisping is going to beat the living hell out of Chael Sonnen. It's true that Bisping lacks knockout power, but his technical striking is very good. I also think his takedown defense is underrated, as is his ground game. I give Sonnen credit for being a good wrestler, but he's too one-dimensional. Sonnen will shoot in almost immediately because Bisping is going to start fast with his striking. Bisping has excellent cardio so he's going to push the pace from the beginning. I think Bisping will get the TKO stoppage sometime in the second or maybe the third round. I don't think Sonnen makes it to the end, Bisping is relentless when he smells blood.

Nick Diaz recently said that he thinks that Carlos Condit is a better fighter than Georges St-Pierre. I'm a big Condit fan, but that's a bit of a stretch. I understand that Diaz is trying to mess with GSP, but he should try to not sound delusional. He doesn't want to get into that Chael Sonnen-area where no one takes what you say seriously. Nick hasn't reached that level, but patently absurd statements diminish your credibility. Ask Joe Rogan about that, with his "Cain Velasquez is the perfect fighter" talk moments before Velasquez got his ass kicked by Junior Dos Santos.
Gamesmanship is one thing, touting lies as truth is another. Nick wants to hype his fight with Condit, that's understandable, but it's pretty unanimous that GSP is at least top three in the world, with only Anderson Silva and Jon Jones being in the discussion. Nick should really try to stay away from these types of statements, if only because they detract from his accomplishments in the cage.
I personally believe that Condit is going to finish Diaz when they fight at UFC 143 on February 4. Diaz has won his last 11 fights, and is 15-1-1 in his last 17. Condit is 12-1 in his last 13 fights. Both of these guys are used to winning. I go with Condit to win, but a Diaz win wouldn't surprise me. Both guys are really good, and GSP is going to have a hard fight regardless of who he has to face next.

Gina Carano?s ?Haywire? opening to very good reviews
The chances Gina Carano returns to get punched in the grill anytime soon gets slimmer and slimmer by the second with the release of her new movie "Haywire."

The L.A. Times wrote glowingly about the performance by the former "face of women's mixed martial arts."
[...] watching Carano kick, spin, flip, choke, crack and crush the fiercest of foes ? mostly men about twice her size ? is thoroughly entertaining, highly amusing and frankly somewhat awe-inspiring.
That's something MMA fans have been entertained by for years, but to hear a non-fan that impressed, has to make Carano feel pretty good. It's certainly going to make a huge impression on folks looking to include the fighter in future projects.
The film critic Betsey Sharkey says the movie isn't Steven Soderbergh's best effort - she lists "Traffic" - but says Haywire is far from his worst. She also hints strongly that Carano has future beyond on-screen kicks and submissions.
There is a sense within all the haywire high jinks that Carano might be able to do just fine with a role that didn't rest so heavily on fighting (though stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell proved a genius in choreographing all those tumbling rumbles). Her athleticism gives her movement a kind of force that translates powerfully on screen ? people do seem inclined to get out of her way even when she's not angry.
Carano, the daughter of former NFL quarterback Glenn Carano, took up Muay Thai in her teens. She fought professionally in MMA eight times. She hasn't fought since losing back in aug. of 2009 to Cristiane Santos. Chances are she never will again if Haywire continues to get reviews like this.
The Vancouver Sun also liked the film. So did the Washington Times, AP, L.A. Weekly, and Rolling Stone invoked the name of Alfred Hitchcock. The U.K.'s Guardian found it a bit boring beyond the fighting scenes.

Contract dispute leaves Yoislandy Izquierdo's status in doubt for UFC on FUEL TV 1
Cuban lightweight Yoislandy Izquierdo may not be making his UFC debut in February, after all.Despite an announcement from the UFC earlier this month that Izquierdo would meet Bernardo Magalhaes at February's UFC on FUEL TV 1 event, an ongoing contract dispute with the Florida-based Championship Fighting Alliance may prevent "Cuba" from appearing in the octagon.

Sonnen vs. Bisping is for title shot, but Chael says Silva will never fight him
Dana White released his first video blog for the card on FX today. One interesting scene includes the UFC president dealing with the withdrawal of Mark Munoz from the UFC on Fox 2 card. White is getting ready to release news of the new Chael Sonnen-Michael Bising fight and says the winner will get a title shot against the currently sidelined UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva.
White must know something Sonnen doesn't because the outspoken contender sounds pretty sure he'll never face Silva.
"I'm not going to fight Anderson either way. They can say whatever they want. Anderson is never going to do that fight," Sonnen told "The MMA Insiders" show last week on Las Vegas' ESPN1100/98.9 FM. "I hope he's healthy and has a good life, but I'm not buying into this mythical world that Anderson is going to some day sign a contract to fight me."
During today's UFC on Fox 2 conference call, Sonnen reiterated his theory and said Silva turned down the fight to their boss' face.
"He even said no to (UFC executive) Lorenzo Fertitta's face. Face-to-face, not over the phone ? Lorenzo brought him out, sat him down, and said, 'This is the fight we want.' And Anderson said no," said Sonnen.
Sonnen knows management isn't pleased and questions the severity of Silva's back and shoulder injuries.
"They're not happy about it. The message to Anderson was this ' Chael is the opponent for you. You can fight him or you can't fight nobody. He elected to fight nobody,'" said Sonnen. "Dan Henderson said it perfectly, if the right opponent comes up, all of Anderson's injuries will go away."
Silva's next opponent will be known next Saturday night. A date and location is completely up in the air until Silva announces when he can officially return.

I've spent the past four days out at Pala MX Raceway for the annual A Day In The Dirt Motocross Grand Prix. It's three days of fun, family ... just a really great event. Where else can you ride with both your daughter and Jeremy McGrath?
But instead of telling you what it's about, I thought I'd share with you what it's like to do a lap in one of the Team races. A Team race is where you have a partner (I raced with Louis Franco) and you switch off each lap. You have to 'hand off' a wrist band to your partner - and then he takes off to do the next lap.

UFC on Fox 2: Evans says Davis isn?t ready for the big stage
Phil Davis is talking a damn good game getting ready for his UFC on Fox 2 main event fight against Rashad Evans. It was so good recently that Evans had finally had enough saying it's all lip service until their face to face in the Octagon.
"When you get hit in the mouth, things change," Evans said during the UFC on Fox 2 conference call (2:15 mark). "When you got hit by 'Little Nog,' you didn't know what to do. When I hit you n the mouth, you're going to feel it."
Davis set off Evans when he said the former UFC light heavyweight champ wouldn't have to worry about a title shot after this fight. Evans unloaded on the young Davis, also suggesting he would freeze in a fight of this magnitude.
"He ain't ready. He knows he ain't ready. You're just a boy," Evans, 32, said of the 27-year-old Davis. "We're going to see what happens. When those lights hit you and the crowd is roaring ... we're gonna see what kind of man you are, what kind of fighter you are."
Evans then went onto say he's a real fighter. He fights because he loves it while Davis fights because it's a job that pays. So the heat has kicked up a notch for Saturday night's fight on network TV.
UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones did his part to pitch the bout. He came out with some pretty strong words about Davis' chances in the fight, saying "Rashad's chin sucks." Jones said Davis by knockout is possible.

UFC on FOX 3 adds John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama at flyweight
The recently announced UFC on FOX 3 event has a new addition. Following Tuesday's announcement of a Jim Miller vs. Nate Diaz bout, UFC officials announced "The Ultimate Fighter 14" winner John Dodson has agreed to meet Darren Uyenoyama at the event.
Both fighters are dropping from bantamweight to flyweight for the fight.
