Karo Parisyan Talks Panic Attacks, Career Struggles
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer<Br><Br>
Former top welterweight contender Karo Parisyan still feels he has much more to prove in the world of MMA and discussed some of the things that lead to him being cut by the UFC with <a href=http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/25/2901210/karo-parisyan-opens-up-on-career-struggles-painkillers-and-why-hes>MMAFighting.com</a> this week:<Br><Br>
"I still have much more to prove, much more to give. It?s like, I got to the top. I was the number one contender. I did a lot of stuff in the sport, but nothing where I could say, yeah, I could retire today. ... One my reasons -- and you?re going to say this is a stupid reason, Karo, but to me it?s a big reason -- but one of the reasons I want to come back is to shut people up. To shut a lot of fricking people up."<Br><Br>
Parisyan also opened up about issues with pain killers and panic attacks that ultimately lead to his release from the UFC:<Br><Br>
"For the record, I was never addicted to pain meds. I abused pain medications without knowing. When it hurt me, it was too late already. I had done too much damage to myself, mentally and physically."<Br><Br>
"Anxiety will be there. Anxiety you can control. The physical panic attack is the one that hits and brings you to your knees. And whoever?s had a panic attack, I want them to, for a second, realize that when they were having a panic attack, the worst one, when they thought they were going to die, I had to walk out in front of 20,000 people and fight. When my friends were pushing me, [saying] ?Get out there, Karo. Thiago Alves is waiting in the cage. You?ve got to go fight.? I did that."<br><br>

RJ Says: Phoenix Supercross 2012 thoughts, Los Angeles Supercross preview

First off, I want to congratulate KTM, Roger De Coster, and Ryan Dungey for KTM's first Supercross Class main event win. It's huge. I know of all the work they have done in the past few years in developing winning machines, teams, and more. Look at what they did with Stefan Everts and Pit Beirer in developing the 350 SX model - two world championships so far with Antonio Cairoli.
KTM in America has been working on the new 450 that Ryan races. It's a new effort, on a new bike. For Ryan Dungey, his win last Saturday in Phoenix goes a long way in many areas, but I feel the most important is that it adds confidence to the team and Ryan.

Even before that, Chael Sonnen put the issue on the radar when he said he used testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to combat hypogonadism following a suspension by the California State Athletic Commission.

Weekend warriors: Rogers KO headlines Bellator while James Vick cruises on TUF
Welcome to weekend warriors, Cagewriter's rundown of the fights you missed while immersed in March Matness.
Bellator started their middleweight tournament on Friday, and Brian Rogers had the highlight of the night with a flying knee knockout of Vitor Vianna.
The knockout earned Rogers a spot in the middleweight tourney's final four. Maiquel Falcao also punched his ticket to the semifinals with a stand-up filled decision over Norman Paraisy. Vyacheslav Vasilevsky also took a decision, coming on strong in the second and third with ground attacks to convince the judges. Bruno Santos avoided the submission expertise of "The Arm Collector," Giva Santana, for another decision win.
Vick rolls and Chiesa learns sad news on "The Ultimate Fighter"
After last week's preliminary fights, "The Ultimate Fighter" returned to its one fight a week format. Coaches Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz chose the teams they'll guide for the rest of the season. The teams are:
Cruz's choices (in order): Justin Lawrence (4-0), Villa Ridge, Mo.; Sam Sicilia (11-0), Spokane Valley, Wash.; Myles Jury (10-0), San Diego, Calif.; Mike Rio (9-1), Miami, Fla., Vick; Vinc Pichel (8-0), Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Chris Tickle (8-4), Bloomington, Ill.; and Jeremy Larsen (9-2), Phoenix, Ariz.
Faber's choices (in order): Al Iaquinta (6-1-1), Wantagh, N.Y.; Cristiano Marcello (13-3), Curitiba, Brazil; Cruickshank; Joe Proctor (8-1), Pembroke, Mass.; Michael Chiesa (8-0), Spokane Valley, Wash., John Cofer (8-1), Hull, Ga.; Andy Ogle (9-1), Tynemouth, England; and Chris Saunders (10-2), Long Beach, Calif.
After Faber announced the fight pick of Cruickshank vs. Vick, Chiesa was pulled out of practice to take a phone all from his mother to find out his father, who had been suffering from cancer, had passed away. A shaken Chiesa said he wanted to stay because his father would have wanted him to.
"He made me promise that I wouldn't leave," Chiesa said.
Chiesa went home for a few days, but returned in time to see Friday night's fight.
Daron Cruickshank (Team Faber) vs. James Vick (Team Cruz)
After the two felt each other out, Cruickshank lowered himself for a takedown. Unfortunately for him, Vick's knee was waiting there. Vick knocked Cruickshank out cold with a knee at 2:16 in the first, giving Team Cruz the first win of the season.
Next week, Marcello and Lawrence will face off.

Chael Sonnen hasn't yet signed on for UFC 147 bout with Anderson Silva, says "my demand has not been met"
|
In a comment made to MMAFighting.com, Sonnen gave a simple explanation as to why, but didn't expand on his reasoning.
"My demand has not been met," Sonnen said. "I've signed nothing."
His manager said it's essentially a formality at this point, but Sonnen said his demand is still to come, and he'll sign once that demand is made and met.
Penick's Analysis: There's not a chance that this is anything more than Chael being Chael. He may have some type of demand as another attempt to stir the pot, much like his challenge to Silva in the cage after defeating Brian Stann last October, but he'll sign on for the fight, and it will go through. This is just more posturing and him trying to rile people up. I'm sure we'll see what his "demand" is, if there is one, in the coming days, but I don't believe for a second that the fight is in danger.

Rashad Evans, The Final Obstacle For Jon Jones?
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer</B><BR><BR>
205 pound sensation Jon ?Bones? Jones arrived on Zuffa landscape in August of 2008 after just six professional fights. UFC scouting proved not only timely, but brilliant; one of the most profound prospects in the business had been spotted by the world?s largest mixed martial arts promotion, and there wasn?t a hint of hesitation in signing the young talent to a multi-fight contract.<BR><BR>
One month after destroying Moyses Gabin at Battle Cage Xtreme 5, ?Bones? made his way to the octagon for the first time.<BR><BR>
Not yet the highly refined warrior we recognize today, Jones battled and dominated Andre Gusmao. While Gusmao never offered up too much resistance, Jon?s inexperience was evident; Gusmao, though hurt a few times, survived to see the final bell toll, and ?Bones? certainly didn?t unleash the flashy and wild offensive maneuvers he?s become known for. In short, Jon was working at getting himself comfortable on the big stage. And, it worked wonders.<BR><BR>
In his next outing, just five months later, Jon met fan favorite Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94. ?Bones? looked like an entirely different fighter. A multitude of aesthetically appealing techniques would be unveiled by the future champ, as he launched wild kicks and some beautiful spinning assaults (a gorgeous spinning elbow floored Bonnar, and decorates highlight reels to this day) that left the TUF alum confused and battered after fifteen minutes. Jones had officially garnered significant attention from UFC brass.<BR><BR>
From that point forward, Jones would take on the role of fledgling superstar. Not even a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill (Jones was disqualified for landing 12-6 elbow strikes from the mount) could suffocate the attention the youngster demanded. Joe Silva and Dana White were all eyes on Jones and to the shock of many, a sizeable leap in competition would quickly follow.<BR><BR>
At UFC 126, in February of 2011, Jones entered the cage to face the other key prospect in the division, Ryan Bader; a dangerous wrestler riding the fame of a recent stint on Spike?s, The Ultimate Fighter. The moment of truth had arrived, and it was time for the future of the division to collide in order to establish another deserving contender. As impressive as Bader had been, Jones made him look the amateur, easily outwrestling and submitting him in approximately nine minutes.<BR><BR>
As impressive as the victory was, the fight only marked the beginning of a frightening reign of dominance. A title fight with Mauricio ?Shogun? Rua presented itself when planned challenger, Rashad Evans was forced to withdraw due to injury. Jones leapt at the chance to meet the Pride star in a title fight, and one month later, the two toed the line in one insanely memorable bout.<BR><BR>
Rua wouldn?t survive to see the fourth round; Jones remained one step ahead of his foe from the opening minute of the fight. A diverse attack consisting of brutal punches, kicks, knees and takedowns kept Mauricio on the constant defensive. After an ugly attack from Jones left Rua crumbled on the canvas, referee Herb Dean stepped in to call a merciful halt to the fight just as ?Shogun? himself pounded the mat in physical surrender. It was a mind boggling sight to see, as no one has ever abused the Brazilian in such fashion.<BR><BR>
Two convincing defenses would follow. First, Jones would accomplish a feat unparalleled within the confines of the octagon: he stopped Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson inside the allotted 25 minute timeframe. After a series of exchanges in the vertical position showcased Jones? striking dominance, but the fight would end on the mat, where Jon applied a slick rear naked choke to bring closure to the bout in the fourth round. Destroying two living legends consecutively however, was not enough for the newly minted champion.<BR><BR>
Jones would go on to battle Lyoto Machida next, in what many figured to be the champion?s greatest test to date. And, to some extent it was; Jones was actually hit flush in this bout, and forced into a striking exchange that ?The Dragon? edged early. Round two saw a stylistic adjustment from Jon however, and the tactic proved to be a wise one. As the bout neared the close of the second frame, Jones hurt Machida with a big punch, and bullied the Brazilian against the cage. A tight standing guillotine was applied, and moments later another former champion had succumbed to the onslaught of Jon Jones; Machida collapsed face first to the canvas, completely unconscious.<BR><BR><!--more-break-->
Having completely destroyed three former champions consecutively, many now feel Jones has free reign over the division. That however is not necessarily true, as one extremely capable challenger now waits in the wings. That challenger is Rashad Evans, who stylistically, could make for some problems come fight time. He?s lightning fast, a superb wrestler, and he possesses knockout power in all four extremities. This collision is long overdue, and the bad blood between these two former training partners permeates any room occupied by both men. It?s quite clear that Rashad believes success has gone to Jon?s head, while Jon seems to view Evans? displeasure as little more than jealousy.<BR><BR>
While many pundits believe Jones to be light years beyond Rashad in regards to natural talent, the fact still remains: Rashad Evans possesses the proper tools to topple the champion. The fact that these two have spent plenty of time training together likely has instilled a bit of extra confidence in Evans, but is confidence enough to overcome the longest reach and most diversified attack in the division, and if so, is Rashad Evans the last true obstacle for Jon Jones? We?ll find out next month.<BR><BR>

Frankie Edgar vs. Benson Henderson II is on
According to Dana White's Twitter feed, the muddled mess that is the lightweight title picture has been cleared up. After Edgar lost his championship belt in a decision to Benson Henderson at UFC 144, Edgar will rematch with current champ Henderson this summer. An exact date or event was not given, but the UFC has planned events for a pay-per-view July 7 and a Fox show on August 4.
Anthony Pettis and the winner of the upcoming bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller have been mentioned as possible contender, but Edgar is the winner. He pushed for the rematch in every interview that came his way. Edgar believed he deserved the fight because he had to rematch close fights twice.
But as Snoop Pearson said, "Deserve got nuthin' to do with it." The fight is good business. Edgar and Henderson's first fight was an exciting, five-round brawl. The rematch will draw more fans who heard about the first match-up. Whether it's on Fox or pay-per-view, a lightweight title bout will offer good TV.

After the Anaheim II Supercross, it?s looking like a four man race for the coveted title of 2012 AMA Supercross Series Champion.
With everybody still healthy and strong, this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive years in Supercross ever. Most seasons in the past the title has come down to one or two guys - but right now there is a major the contrast in the consistency of Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey versus the brutal speed of Ryan Villopoto and James Stewart.

Santos Overweight; Prindle Awarded Bellator Tournament Title
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer</B><BR><BR>
Eric Prindle (7-1-0-1) just picked up the easiest title he?ll likely ever claim. The man didn?t even have to step foot in a cage to pick up the title of Bellator Tournament Winner, as his opponent, Thiago Santos (10-1-0-1), missed weight be a sizeable discrepancy.<BR><BR>

Santos?s blunder marks a second failed effort to put this rematch together (the two first battled at Bellator 59, when Prindle suffered a fight ending groin shot, which resulted in a No Contest ruling), as the two were slated to meet at Bellator 61, but Prindle fell ill prior to the match.<BR><BR>
