UFC 144 Results: Anthony Pettis knocks out Joe Lauzon with a head kick in the first

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Anthony Pettis returned to form on Saturday night in Japan, adding another highlight to an already extensive reel with a head-kick knockout of Joe Lauzon at UFC 144.

After two less-than stellar performances in 2011 to kick off his UFC career, the final WEC Lightweight Champion looked comfortable from the outset before making quick work of Lauzon. He came out in a southpaw stance, and mixed in some short flurries and strikes before unleashing a vicious head kick that dropped Lauzon.

The blow landed shin-to-chin and sent Lauzon to the mat, and after a couple of follow up strikes the ref finally got in to stop it.

Pettis may now be in line for a title shot in the lightweight division, while Lauzon goes back to the drawing board after his third stoppage loss in the UFC.
